Our Home Block – Flaxman Valley
Our second bottling from our beloved home block situated on the border of Flaxman & Eden Valleys. We planted our home block using cuttings from some very esteemed local vineyards. It's proving to produce fruit with great intensity and flavour at low to moderate alcohol levels.
This release is again from "The Old Man's Block" situated around our old barn very close to the house, with a mighty centuries old gum tree at the head of the block that we call "The Old Man" due to a large side profile of a face in the base of the trunk that can also be seen on the back label of our wine.
This release too contains a few buckets from our other vineyards up on the hill. "Truffle Hill and The Quarry Block" And our love of Rhone varieties. We planted a tiny contour vineyard consisting of under 400 vines with Marsanne Roussanne & Viognier. Whilst this vineyard is yet to produce enough fruit to make a white wine from. As with the 2023 vintage. We select the very best bunches for inclusion in "Home of the Dero"
The kids were given the day off school to help hand harvest these little beauties. All up we managed a tiny yield of just 314 kilograms to afford one Barrique for the 24 season.
The precious cargo in this little stainless-steel tank was a 28-day whole cluster ferment. Basket Pressed and put to a lightly seasoned Italian Barrique for 16 months. This wine received no additions apart from a little Sulphur. It loves a good whiff of air and in time will unfurl and show its full potential.
